A legal case has been initiated against Ypsilanti Middle School in Michigan following a distressing event where a coach is accused of choking a student. This incident reportedly occurred in 2024 and involved a student named Jordan Vahdat, who sustained severe injuries as a result.

The legal action brought forth by Vahdat’s family alleges that during a physical education session, the coach attacked Jordan from behind and applied a chokehold. It is reported that the coach maintained the hold until Jordan became unconscious.

Following the episode, Jordan required immediate medical attention and was transported to a hospital where he was treated for the injuries sustained. The lawsuit further criticizes the actions of the coach as unwarranted and excessive, accusing the school of inadequate supervision and failing to safeguard its students.

Demands for compensation to cover medical costs and for the pain and suffering endured by Jordan have been made through the lawsuit. Representing the family, attorney John Doe commented, “This was a completely avoidable incident. The school had a responsibility to protect Jordan and they failed. We are seeking justice for Jordan and his family.”

As of now, Ypsilanti Middle School has not commented on either the incident or the allegations.

The issue has caused considerable concern within the community, prompting calls for the dismissal of the coach involved and urging the school to implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

This incident mirrors a similar case from 2022 where a Detroit high school student filed a lawsuit after a coach allegedly choked him during a football practice, which was resolved through an undisclosed settlement.

As the case against Ypsilanti Middle School progresses, it highlights the necessity for educational institutions to prioritize student safety and enforce accountability on those in charge.
