Celebrity chef Padma Lakshmi recently voiced her concerns over her teenage daughter, Krishna, taking up modeling as a career. In an interview, the “Top Chef” host and accomplished author highlighted her reservations. “I don’t want her to model. I don’t think it’s a good profession for young women, especially. It’s not a career I would wish on my daughter,” Lakshmi remarked.

Having been part of the fashion industry herself, Lakshmi is no stranger to the challenges it can pose, from body shaming to the constant pressure to maintain an ideal physique. She wishes to protect her daughter from these very challenges.

Krishna, whose father is venture capitalist Adam Dell, has been the center of Lakshmi’s careful co-parenting and nurturing efforts, aimed at ensuring a supportive environment for her. Despite Krishna’s interest in fashion and modeling, Lakshmi supports her daughter’s pursuits in other fields that resonate with her personal values and the well-being she envisions for her.

Lakshmi, who also hosts “Taste the Nation,” stresses the importance of self-assurance and happiness in whatever career path Krishna may choose to follow. “I want her to be happy, healthy, and confident in whatever she chooses to do. If she wants to pursue fashion or design, that’s great. But I don’t want her to feel like she has to conform to any unrealistic standards or expectations,” she explained.

Her stance underscores the concerns many parents and professionals in the industry share about the negative impacts of fashion on youth, particularly regarding mental health and self-esteem. As a notable figure and advocate for women’s issues, Lakshim is keen on advocating for a healthier, more balanced view on beauty and success, using her public platform to foster change.
