The National Football League (NFL) is actively probing new sexual assault claims directed at Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. These allegations stem from a recent lawsuit brought forth by a woman using the pseudonym “Jane Doe,” who accuses Watson of inappropriate conduct during an encounter in 2020.

A release from the NFL indicated to Cleveland.com that the organization is in the process of collecting additional details about the allegations. For the time being, Watson has not been suspended from play and remains off the Commissioner’s Exempt list, given the lack of formal charges and the nascent stage of the investigation. However, this status could potentially shift with the emergence of new evidence.

According to the lawsuit, the incident in question transpired after Jane Doe had invited Watson over for a dinner at her apartment. She alleges that Watson unexpectedly disrobed and insisted on a massage upon his arrival, followed by him committing sexual assault for several minutes.

This situation marks not the first instance where Watson has been accused of such behavior. Previously, over 20 women have brought forward lawsuits against him with similar accusations, which led the NFL to conduct an earlier investigation. As a result of that investigation, Watson was subject to an 11-game suspension and was fined $5 million.

Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing Jane Doe and also the lawyer for many of Watson’s previous accusers, conveyed in an interview their determination to advance this case vigorously, echoing their past legal strategies. He highlighted their aim to take this issue to trial and mentioned that Doe is pursuing damages exceeding $1 million.

In reaction to the fresh lawsuit, the Browns stated their dedication to honoring the legal processes and adhering to the NFL’s procedures regarding such matters.

This latest inquiry into Watson underscores the persistent concern over his actions and reflects the concerted efforts by the NFL to tackle grave offenses within its community.
