Alexander Morris, a singer from the renowned Motown ensemble Four Tops, has initiated a lawsuit against a hospital and its medical staff, alleging mistreatment during his stay there. Court filings reveal that Morris was seeking mental health services when he was forcibly constrained using a straitjacket, which he claims caused him physical injuries and emotional distress.
The allegations suggest that instead of receiving appropriate mental health care, Morris was physically restrained, and his pleas for release were ignored. Furthermore, it is claimed that the medical team did not adequately monitor his conditions during the time he was restrained, exacerbating the situation.
Seeking legal recourse for medical malpractice, battery, and emotional distress, Morris’s legal representative stated, “Our client suffered due to the neglect and inappropriate actions of those who were meant to assist him. Rather than receiving proper care, he experienced significant physical and emotional trauma. We rely on healthcare professionals for suitable and compassionate care, not to inflict harm. Our hope is that through the legal process, those at fault will be held accountable for their actions.”
Currently, the hospital and accused medical professionals have not commented on the ongoing proceedings.
This lawsuit underscores Morris’s fight for justice and the broader advocacy against the use of physical restraints in mental health treatment. The case brings to light critical concerns about the necessity of humane treatment in healthcare, particularly in psychiatric care, and emphasizes the accountability that healthcare providers must uphold in their practice.
