Mixed martial arts (MMA) icon Conor McGregor has reportedly sustained an injury that has sidelined him from his upcoming fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 303.

Insiders close to the matter have indicated that the severity of McGregor’s injury remains uncertain, but it is significant enough to rule him out of the highly awaited contest against Chandler.

While the UFC has yet to officially comment on the fight’s status, UFC President Dana White has affirmed that McGregor is indeed injured and will not be able to participate.

“Conor is out of the fight against Michael Chandler,” White confirmed. “I don’t have all the details yet, but it’s a serious enough injury that he can’t compete.”

The news of McGregor’s withdrawal deals a notable setback to the UFC and its fan base, as the matchup with Chandler was expected to be a key highlight.

It remains unknown who will replace McGregor in the fight against Chandler or whether the UFC will postpone the fight to a later date.

McGregyer has not fought in the UFC since his defeat by Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 in January 2021. This injury adds to a series of challenges, including various injuries and legal troubles, which have marred the career of the former two-division champion.

Despite these difficulties, McGregor continues to be one of the major figures in the sport and is anticipated to make a comeback to the Octagon eventually.

Meanwhile, fans and spectators will have to stay tuned to see how the UFC navigates this predicament and whether a suitable substitute for McGregor can be arranged in time for UFC 303.
