Chloe Sevigny recently opened up about her experiences working alongside Christian Bale during the filming of “American Psycho,” describing his method acting techniques as particularly daunting.

In her role as the secretary to Bale’s character in the film, which was released in 2000, Sevigny witnessed first-hand the deep commitment Bale had to embodying Patrick Bateman, which she said led to some tense situations on the set. She noted that Bale would remain in character even between takes, resulting in some uncomfortable encounters.

She shared an anecdote about a time during a break when Bale, still in character as Bateman, requested that she fetch him a coffee. Feeling uneasy, Sevigny chose to decline and retreated to her trailer.

Moreover, Sevigny mentioned that Bale’s complete transformation into the manipulative and psychopathic Bateman was so thorough that distinguishing the actor from his role became challenging. She expressed how difficult it was to interact with him during these moments, stating, “It was hard to be around Christian when he was in that zone. He was very intense and serious, and it was hard to have a laugh or a joke with him.”

Despite the sometimes intimidating environment his method acting created, Sevigny commended Bale for his intense dedication to his craft, acknowledging that it greatly enhanced his portrayal of the memorable character.
