Alec Baldwin has announced his intention to file a lawsuit against the Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and the Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza, who were involved in the handling of the manslaughter case on the “Rust” film set where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot. Baldwin, who was holding the weapon that fired, killing Hutchins, has voiced his discontent over the case being dropped.

In a recent disclosure, Baldwin mentioned his plan to pursue legal action, accusing both the District Attorney and the Sheriff of misconduct in their investigation and the handling of the charges against him. He is seeking compensation for emotional distress and financial losses suffered due to the case.

His legal representatives argue that the investigation was not conducted properly and overlooked key evidence that could have cleared Baldwin. They assert that the case’s dismissal was influenced by political motives rather than being based on objective facts.

The tragic incident on the “Rust” set happened in October 2021 when a prop gun that was supposed to contain dummy rounds unexpectedly discharged live ammunition during a rehearsal, resulting in Hutchins’ death and also injuring director Joel Souza.

Throughout the ordeal, Baldwin has consistently stated he did not pull the trigger and that the discharge was accidental. Nonetheless, his involvement in the unfortunate event, particularly in his capacity as producer and actor, has led to significant public and critical scrutiny about his role and the safety measures on the set.

The clearing of charges against Baldwin has been polarizing, receiving both acclaim and criticism. Critics argue the decision reflects a failure to adequately hold him accountable, while supporters believe the prosecutor and sheriff made the right call given the evidence.

Baldin’s impending lawsuit is expected to heighten tensions and add to the ongoing controversy surrounding his connection to the tragedy on the “Rust” set. As the legal proceedings commence, they will likely attract considerable attention, spotlighting the intricate and heated nature of the case.
